Suzhou – October 7, 2026 -- Suzhou Ribo Life Science (06938.HK) and its Swedish subsidiary Ribocure Pharmaceuticals AB have submitted a Phase I Clinical Trial Application in the European Union for RBD3133, a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic targeting the INHBE gene for overweight and obesity.
RBD3133 silences a gene linked to healthier fat distribution in human genetic studies
RBD3133 is designed to selectively suppress INHBE, which encodes the protein activin E. Human genetic data show that individuals with naturally occurring loss-of-function variants in INHBE exhibit healthier fat distribution, improved metabolic profiles, and a lower estimated risk of coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Phase I trial will test safety and pharmacokinetics in overweight and obese participants
The randomized, placebo-controlled study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of subcutaneously administered RBD3133. It marks the first human assessment of the compound and will form the basis for subsequent clinical development stages.
Obesity affects more than one billion people worldwide, driving demand for new mechanisms
Obesity contributes to a substantial global burden of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and related comorbidities, according to the company. Despite recent therapeutic advances, Ribo points to a continued need for treatments that target the underlying biology of metabolic dysfunction rather than symptoms alone.
RBD3133 becomes Ribo's first obesity-focused candidate in its cardiometabolic pipeline
Dr. Anders Gabrielsen, Chief Medical Officer of Ribo, said the CTA submission reflects the company's ability to translate human genetic evidence into RNAi medicines for its cardiometabolic programs. RBD3133 is positioned within Ribo's siRNA portfolio as a candidate for weight-loss-related cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, extending the company's focus beyond its existing work in liver and kidney disease into a large, underserved patient population.
