New York – October 29, 2026 -- PULLMAN has won the Roger Corbetta Award for Repair and Restoration from the Concrete Industry Board for its water remediation work on the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in New York City. The Concrete Industry Board, the New York Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, presented the award on October 28 at the Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
Water infiltration threatened structure and interiors of a National Historic Landmark
The Custom House, designed by architect Cass Gilbert, is both a New York City Landmark and a National Historic Landmark designated by the National Park Service. Water infiltration endangered its structural integrity and historic interiors.
PULLMAN worked with Consigli Construction and engineering partner Superstructures to trace the sources of water intrusion, then designed and executed the repairs. The building stayed fully operational throughout construction.
Masonry perimeter walls replaced with waterproof reinforced concrete
A key element of the repair was removing masonry perimeter walls and replacing them with durable, waterproof reinforced concrete walls. The award recognized the technical demands of doing this work in a historically significant building that remained in use.
Project served as an early GSA pilot under Inflation Reduction Act low-carbon rules
The job was one of the first pilot projects for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) completed under the Inflation Reduction Act's low-carbon requirements for concrete and steel construction materials.
PULLMAN Project Executive Sarah Migliore said the team addressed the water intrusion while preserving historic elements and maintaining operations throughout construction.
