Philips Foundation Expands Healthcare Access to 46.5 Million People in 2024, Marking Decade of Impact

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 25, 2025 – Philips Foundation has announced the results of its 2024 activities in a newly published Annual Report, celebrating a milestone year that brought quality healthcare access to 46.5 million people globally—up from 28 million in 2023. The results mark a significant stride toward the Foundation’s 2030 goal of reaching 100 million underserved individuals each year.

Strategic Projects and Investments Drive Expansion

Throughout 2024, the Foundation initiated 22 new healthcare projects and five early-stage impact investments, with a strategic focus on primary care in underserved regions, particularly in India and Latin America. These initiatives leveraged Philips' health technology expertise to address rising non-communicable disease burdens and maternal health challenges.

“Today, half of the global population still does not have access to healthcare. Innovation and new digital technologies, combined with an ecosystem of partners, can improve health outcomes and make progress towards a future where quality healthcare is within reach for everyone,” said Marnix van Ginneken, Chair of the Board of the Philips Foundation. “The Foundation’s tenth anniversary marks an important milestone, demonstrating our continued commitment to addressing the critical needs of the world’s most vulnerable populations.”

Locally Embedded Innovation and Scalable Models

Since its inception in 2014, the Foundation has consistently focused on bringing sustainable healthcare solutions to some of the most remote and marginalized communities worldwide. Key examples include:

  • Collaboration with the World Heart Federation to combat rheumatic heart disease.
  • Cross-continental ultrasound training with RAD-AID International to empower frontline workers in low-resource settings.
  • Programs addressing maternal health and non-communicable diseases at the primary care level.

By pairing long-term collaboration with early-stage capital, Philips Foundation Impact Investments is accelerating the development of scalable, locally rooted healthcare models. In 2024, its portfolio expanded to include ventures based in India and Latin America, further supporting region-specific innovations that align with community needs.

Partnerships as Catalysts for Global Health Equity

The Foundation’s impact model relies heavily on its ability to foster partnerships across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. These collaborations enable flexible financing structures and the integration of locally adapted healthcare technologies.

“Combining the impact of long-term strategic collaborations and new, innovative partnerships and early-stage investments, the Foundation has helped to embed healthcare innovations in the communities where they’re most needed, improving healthcare access,” said Margot Cooijmans, Director of Philips Foundation and Philips Foundation Impact Investments. “We continue to increase the number of people that we reach with quality healthcare, bringing us closer to our ambition to reach 100 million people annually by 2030.”

Looking Ahead to 2030

With a clear trajectory and solid momentum, Philips Foundation continues to evolve its impact strategy to close healthcare gaps in vulnerable populations. The 2024 Annual Report not only showcases impressive growth in scale and reach but also reinforces the organization’s role as a catalyst for innovation and inclusion in global health systems.
