Newark – November 05, 2026 -- New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation, has achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2. The certification validates its practices against the 110 security requirements of NIST Special Publication 800-171 for handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in support of the U.S. Department of War and the Defense Industrial Base.
Assessment covered seven control areas of NJII's cybersecurity program
NJII earned the certification after a comprehensive assessment of its cybersecurity program. The review covered access management, incident response, risk management, system security, asset protection, employee awareness and continuous monitoring.
Defense supply chain integrity drives the compliance requirement
NJII said the certification supports operational resilience and protects the integrity of the defense supply chain as cyber threats grow more sophisticated. Interim President Jennifer D'Angelo said the result reflects the institute's commitment to supporting defense, government and industry partners with secure solutions. Michael Grinaway, Senior Director of IT, said it shows NJII can meet stringent federal cybersecurity requirements.
NJII ties certification to National Defense Strategy Line of Effort 4
Thomas Murphy, Vice President of Defense, linked the certification to the National Defense Strategy's Line of Effort 4, "Supercharging the Defense Industrial Base." He said advanced manufacturing can only accelerate with strong digital security.
NJII said the certification lets it expand support for organizations navigating cybersecurity compliance requirements and pursuing secure digital transformation. It cited its expertise in technology, commercialization, manufacturing and defense innovation.
