Dallas – – October 06, 2026 -- NexPoint has launched NexPoint Energy DST, a $18,844,000 Delaware statutory trust offering that gives accredited investors royalty exposure to more than 200 producing oil and natural gas wells across the Permian Basin and Haynesville Shale. The vehicle marks the multibillion-dollar alternative investment firm's first energy-focused DST and extends its tax-advantaged platform into mineral rights for the first time.
Portfolio spans 1,277 net royalty acres across two major U.S. basins
The offering covers approximately 1,277 net royalty acres, with interests in over 200 producing wells and more than 300 undrilled locations. Roughly 90% of the portfolio is tied to Haynesville Shale natural gas production, with the remaining 10% linked to Permian Basin oil. The minimum investment is set at $100,000, and the structure is designed to accommodate investors pursuing 1031 exchanges.
DST structure separates royalty income from operational risk
Rather than taking on drilling costs or field operations, the trust holds mineral rights and collects royalty income from oil and gas sales, with drilling and production managed by established third-party operators. "This portfolio combines existing production, identified reserves, and a deep bench of experienced operators in the Permian and the Haynesville," said Luke Blackwell, President of NexPoint's energy investment platform.
Basin output underpins the royalty thesis
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Permian Basin produced approximately 6.6 million barrels of crude oil per day in 2025, nearly half of total U.S. output. The Haynesville Shale produced approximately 14.9 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day in 2025, with proximity to Gulf Coast LNG export facilities supporting both domestic and global demand.
NexPoint has deployed 36 DST programs since 2016
The firm has brought 36 DST programs to market since 2016, delivering over $3.2 billion in gross real estate through the structure across sectors including self-storage, small bay industrial, life sciences, multifamily, hospitality and marinas. NexPoint has also held prior oil and gas exposure through its corporate balance sheet, affiliated ownership structures and personal capital from firm management, which it is now channeling into the DST format.
