LIMS Market to Hit $5.84B by 2031 as Labs Shift to Cloud, AI

Delray Beach – September 20, 2026 -- The global Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) market is projected to grow from USD 3.26 billion in 2026 to USD 5.84 billion by 2031, a compound annual growth rate of 12.4%, according to MarketsandMarkets.

Rising test volumes force labs to digitize workflows

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that healthcare professionals order more than 14 billion laboratory tests annually across over 266,000 CLIA-certified laboratories nationwide. In India, the RMLIMS platform recorded complete blood count testing rise from 236,289 to 331,541 procedures between 2023 and 2025, while molecular testing volumes climbed from 728 to 1,236 over the same period.

Cloud deployment emerges as fastest-growing segment

By deployment model, cloud-based LIMS is set for the fastest growth, offering remote access, quicker implementation cycles and lower upfront infrastructure costs compared with on-premise systems. The model is drawing interest from diagnostic networks, contract research organizations and smaller laboratories seeking to digitize without heavy capital outlay. Within components, the software segment is expanding at 13.0% CAGR through the forecast period, while broad-based LIMS held the largest type share at 53.8% in 2025.

Life sciences and North America anchor current demand

The life sciences segment accounts for the largest industry share of the LIMS market, driven by pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D, drug discovery, and quality control operations governed by FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and GxP data-integrity rules. North America held the largest regional share at 40-42% in 2025, underpinned by advanced healthcare infrastructure and stringent regulatory frameworks.

Capital flows into cloud and AI-enabled laboratory platforms

Investment activity is concentrating on platforms linking LIMS with electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory execution systems and scientific data management systems. In January 2026, STARLIMS received a strategic investment from Turn/River Capital following an exit by Francisco Partners, aimed at funding product innovation, AI adoption and market expansion. In June 2026, laboratory informatics firm Scispot raised USD 8 million in Series A funding led by Avenue Growth Partners, backing its alt-LIMS platform that connects instruments, samples, workflows and laboratory data.

Established vendors dominate a fragmenting competitive field

LabWare, LabVantage Solutions, Thermo Fisher Scientific and STARLIMS are consistently cited among the leading vendors. Thermo Fisher extends its reach through SampleManager LIMS, which bundles LIMS with ELN, SDMS and LES capabilities, while other named players include Agilent Technologies, LabLynx, Dassault Systèmes and Labworks. M&A activity between January 2025 and June 2026 has centered on acquiring LIMS providers to broaden cloud, automation and AI-analytics capabilities across laboratory segments.
