Mühlhausen – September 07, 2026 -- LichtBlick has commissioned its largest solar park to date in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, a facility spanning approximately 37 hectares with roughly 71,000 solar modules that will generate around 45 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to supply more than 13,000 households.
New substation enables grid connection for record-scale facility
A dedicated substation was built specifically to feed the generated power into the electricity grid, supporting the scale of the installation. The project marks the second photovoltaic development LichtBlick has completed in the current fiscal year, part of an accelerated buildout of its own generation capacity.
LichtBlick commits €600 million to generation and storage by 2030
The Mühlhausen park is a component of LichtBlick's broader strategy to invest around €600 million in proprietary generation and storage capacity by 2030, positioning in-house renewable output as a core pillar of its business model. CEO Marc Wallraff called the commissioning "an important milestone," noting that in-house generation assets form the basis for supplying customers with renewable energy over the long term.
Municipal officials cite energy independence gains from local generation
Mühlhausen Mayor Dr. Johannes Bruns said the solar park, alongside projects run by municipal utility Stadtwerke Mühlhausen, advances the city's shift toward sustainable and independent energy supply, reducing reliance on external energy sources.
GOLDBECK SOLAR executed project despite complex terrain challenges
LichtBlick subsidiary solargrün handled project development, coordinating closely with the city through an extended planning phase. GOLDBECK SOLAR served as general contractor. Alexander Gutsch, the firm's Head of Sales for the Regional Center Central Europe, described the project as demanding due to complex land structure, terrain topography, and requirements related to soil conditions and unexploded ordnance clearance. LichtBlick and GOLDBECK SOLAR previously collaborated on a solar park in Blaubeuren, Baden-Württemberg.
