SHERIDAN, WYOMING -- June 6, 2026 -- Huawei showcased the backup and data protection capabilities of its OceanProtect solution through the OceanStor Talks webinar series, with a live demo session conducted on 29 May 2026. The demonstration covered three core performance areas central to enterprise storage decisions: fast backup and recovery throughput, data reduction efficiency, and broad workload compatibility across both traditional and emerging application environments. M. Murat Kalak, Senior Solutions POC Testing Specialist, led the session on behalf of Huawei. The OceanStor Talks series continues with sessions scheduled through October 2026 covering additional storage, HPC and data center topics.

OceanProtect Delivers Backup Throughput of Up to 130 TB Per Hour

OceanProtect's primary performance figures center on speed. Backup throughput reaches up to 130 TB per hour, with recovery bandwidth at 72 TB per hour. For organizations managing large data volumes or distributed environments, those numbers define how quickly workloads can be protected and how fast operations can be restored after a disruption. Huawei positioned the demo as an opportunity for storage decision-makers to assess directly whether their current backup infrastructure meets those performance thresholds.

72:1 Deduplication Ratio Puts OceanProtect 20 Percent Above the Industry Standard

Data reduction sits at the center of OceanProtect's efficiency case. The solution applies end-to-end deduplication at a ratio of 72:1 — a figure Huawei describes as 20 percent higher than the industry benchmark. Higher deduplication means less physical capacity consumed per unit of protected data. That cuts procurement costs and reduces the volume transferred in cloud backup scenarios. It also lowers the storage footprint needed for long-term retention.

Ecosystem Compatibility Spans Traditional Databases Through AI and Cloud-Native Applications

OceanProtect is built to work across the full range of workload types common in enterprise IT. The solution supports traditional databases and virtualization platforms alongside emerging categories: distributed databases, Big Data environments, containers, AI workloads, object storage and cloud applications. That breadth is relevant to organizations running mixed infrastructure where different application generations coexist. A single backup system covering all those environments reduces the operational complexity of managing separate protection tools for each workload type.

OceanStor Talks Schedule Runs Through October With Storage, HPC and Data Center Sessions

The OceanStor Talks webinar schedule extends well into the second half of 2026. Upcoming sessions cover Huawei Scale-Out Storage with multi-protocol support on 12 June, the OceanDisk Smart Disk Enclosure for HPC systems on 10 July, and ransomware protection for block and file storage on 24 July. An anti-ransomware demo showcase follows on 7 August. Later sessions in August and September address full-stack data center solutions, including a DCS demo showcase. September and October rounds out the calendar with IdeaPresence premium meeting environments and an AI data platform session. All webinars start at 9:00 AM CET.

Two Earlier OceanStor Talks Sessions Are Available as Video Recordings

Enterprises that missed the earlier installments can access recordings from two past sessions. The 10 April session examined the IdeaHub collaboration device and its role in professional meeting environments. The 17 April session covered the new-generation OceanStor Dorado All-Flash system, with a focus on enterprise-critical storage. Both are available as video recordings through the OceanStor Talks platform.
