Guangzhou, China – September 11, 2026 -- GAC Group shipped 26,978 vehicles under its own brands in international markets in August, an increase of 177% year-on-year, extending a run of overseas expansion that has pushed cumulative exports close to 600,000 units.
Exports for the January-August period totaled 172,008 units, up 136% from the same period last year, according to figures released by the Guangzhou-based automaker.
Africa posts steepest growth as retail sales climb 881%
Africa emerged as GAC's fastest-growing overseas market in August, with retail sales rising 881% year-on-year. The company finalized a local production agreement in Egypt with Jameel Motors and formally entered the Ghanaian market, launching a lineup that includes the S7, GS8 and AION V models.
Uruguay breakthrough lifts Americas sales 93%
Consumer sales across the Americas rose 93% year-on-year in August. In Uruguay, GAC ranked fifth among all passenger vehicle brands and third among fully electric brands in July, capturing a 6.0% monthly market share. The AION V took second place in overall SUV sales and led the compact SUV segment in the country that month.
Southeast Asia sales rise 24%, led by 283% jump in the Philippines
Retail sales in Southeast Asia grew 24% year-on-year in August. The Philippines posted a 283% increase, followed by Singapore at 89%, Thailand at 27% and Indonesia at 24%. In Hong Kong, the GAC E9 topped the luxury MPV segment in July, while cumulative sales from January through July ranked second among Chinese brands and third overall in the territory.
Middle East debut introduces first off-road model ahead of September launch
GAC has built a customer base exceeding 100,000 users across the Middle East. On August 28, the company unveiled the XT80, its first off-road vehicle, alongside the GS7 plug-in hybrid at an overseas debut event. The GS7 plug-in hybrid is scheduled to launch in the region in September.
European retail sales climb 93% month-on-month
Retail sales in Europe rose 93% compared with the previous month. The UK grew 89%, Portugal 167% and Poland 33%. Greece ranked second in fully electric vehicle sales in August, reinforcing a steady gain in market share for the brand.
