FIBERSCOPE Launches Truck-Free STORMER X Pipe Crawler in North America

Winnipeg – November 03, 2026 -- FIBERSCOPE has launched the STORMER X Municipal Grade Pipe Crawler in North America, a portable CCTV platform that inspects sewer mains, storm drains, culverts and industrial pipelines from 6 to 80 inches (DN150–2000) without a dedicated inspection truck.

Wheeled platform moves from pickup to access point

The crawler, motorized reel and control tablet are combined into one wheeled unit. Crews can carry it from a pickup or service vehicle to sites that full-size trucks struggle to reach, including backyard easements, rough terrain, parking structures, remote culverts and industrial facilities. FIBERSCOPE says dedicated trucks remain efficient where crews can drive from manhole to manhole.

The vendor argues the question is whether every inspection requires a truck. In its words, STORMER X brings crawler capability to the access point instead of designing each job around vehicle access.

Two tool batteries power the system; AC option covers vehicle installs

The unit runs on two commercial tool batteries, such as DeWalt or Milwaukee packs, through configured interfaces for major brands. It also operates on 110–240 V AC for permanent van or truck installations. Cable length is 656 ft in the Base configuration and 984 ft in the Advanced configuration, configurable up to 1,650 ft.

Camera and sensors add condition data to the video survey

The Full HD pan-and-tilt camera records 1920 × 1080 video at 30 fps with autofocus, 10× optical zoom and 12× digital zoom. An electric elevator centers the camera in larger pipes.

Both configurations include a groundwater inflow sensor that plots inflow against inspection distance, helping crews locate affected joints and pipe sections during inflow and infiltration investigations. The Advanced Set adds lasers that measure pipe diameter, ovality, crack width and object width. An optional lateral launch covers 8–48 inch mains and 4–12 inch laterals.

Tablet ships with lifetime IKAM software license

The rugged control tablet includes a lifetime license for IKAM inspection software. Operators can code defects, plot inclination, generate inspection reports and export data to downstream engineering workflows. Agencies with specific coding requirements should confirm the reporting configuration with FIBERSCOPE before ordering.

Zikmund Electronics designs and manufactures STORMER X in the European Union, and it is configured for the North American market. FIBERSCOPE handles quotations, warranty administration, parts, technical assistance and service for customers in the United States and Canada.
