Evident Launches Pramana POD Benchtop Scanner for Smaller Labs

Needham, Mass. – October 16, 2026 -- Evident has launched the Pramana POD, a benchtop whole slide imaging (WSI) scanner that scans at true 40X resolution at 25 slides per hour under defined conditions and targets small and medium-sized pathology laboratories.

Evident extends autonomous Pramana WSI technology to smaller laboratories

The system is built for small and medium-sized labs and for specialty applications within larger institutions. Evident is extending its existing Pramana autonomous WSI technology to this segment as laboratories expand digital workflows amid rising case volumes and operational demands.

Automated imaging aims to cut operator intervention and post-scan QA

The scanner automates imaging with a tissue finder, extensive label detection, and automated focal plane and scan-profile selection. Built-in image-quality assessment is designed to deliver pathologist-ready images and flag scans that may need further review.

Volumetric imaging captures multiple focal planes so that sharp focal information can be selected across the scanned area.

Prasanth Perugupalli, Vice President of Digital Pathology at Evident, said that building quality assurance into the imaging process can help labs of varying sizes reduce post-scan QA and the associated costs and delays.

Pramana series covers brightfield applications from histopathology to microbiology

According to Evident, the Pramana series suits most brightfield imaging applications, including histopathology, core biopsies, hematology, cytology, and microbiology. Perugupalli said Pramana WSI technology has been widely accepted by academic medical centers and network labs across the United States.

The product is labeled for research use only and is not for use in diagnostic procedures. Evident states that future clinical availability depends on regulatory authorization, that status and availability vary by country, and that performance varies by specimen type and workflow.
