Palo Alto – October 21, 2026 -- Epiphan Video has released read and write access for Epiphan MCP, its hosted Model Context Protocol server for Epiphan Edge. AV and IT teams can now direct Pearl encoders through Claude or ChatGPT, with the user approving each action before it runs.
Epiphan MCP write access covers recording, streaming, scheduling and firmware
Teams can query device status, storage, recording state and schedules in plain language, then act on the answer in the same conversation. Write access lets them start, stop, pause and resume recording on one channel or many. They can also create stream destinations and start or stop streaming.
Scheduled events in Epiphan CMS can be created, extended, paused and resumed. A saved configuration preset can be applied to a group of devices, and devices can be rebooted or have firmware updated.
User roles and per-action approval limit what assistants can change
Epiphan MCP connects through the same OAuth sign-in as Epiphan Cloud. The user picks one team at sign-in, and the assistant sees only what that account can already see. It can act only within the user's role in Epiphan Edge, and Claude and ChatGPT request approval for every write action.
Epiphan's documentation flags actions that interrupt a recording or stream, such as reboots and firmware updates, so teams can schedule them for quiet hours. Yusupha Touray, VP of Product, said letting an assistant change a device in a live room "sets a high bar for safety."
Write access ships on Epiphan Edge Premium for four Pearl models
Write access is available now on Epiphan Edge Premium plans for Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano and Pearl Nexus. Pausing and resuming recording requires Pearl firmware 4.24.6 or later. EC20 cameras support reboot and firmware update through Epiphan MCP.
Epiphan tests Epiphan MCP with Claude and ChatGPT. CEO George Birchall said the server gives teams a live picture of every room they run.
