Richmond, Va. – October 06, 2026 -- Contractor Training Center (CTC) has launched three new exam prep programs targeting North Carolina's Limited, Intermediate, and Unlimited electrical contractor licensing exams, with course-only preparation starting at $349.
North Carolina's three contractor tiers carry distinct project-value ceilings
The state's Limited classification caps projects at $60,000, Intermediate allows up to $150,000, and Unlimited carries no ceiling. Candidates can apply directly for the classification matching their documented experience without progressing sequentially through tiers.
All three license levels share a 100-question, six-hour open-book exam format
That structure gives candidates roughly 3.6 minutes per question, including time spent locating information in approved reference materials. Patrick Hayes, General Manager at CTC, said open-book conditions do not equate to an easy test, noting that candidates must know how to locate information, work efficiently through calculations, and manage six hours of testing.
Each program delivers roughly 18 hours of self-paced instruction with a year of access
The offering includes 365 days of platform access, monthly instructor office hours, and unlimited attempts on an Exam Simulator built around the specific references and requirements used in the North Carolina exam, as outlined by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors. Package options bundle required reference books along with pre-tabbed and highlighted materials intended for faster navigation during the exam.
Governor Stein proclaimed October 2026 Careers in Construction Month amid workforce shortage concerns
The proclamation tied North Carolina's skilled construction workforce shortage directly to the state's capacity to meet growing housing demand. CTC timed the program launch to coincide with that designation.
CTC extends support into the licensing application process itself
Beyond exam preparation, the company's Contractor License Application Processing Service has licensing experts work directly with contractors on documentation, experience verification, and application review for completeness, extending support from test prep through final licensure.
Enrollment for the North Carolina Limited, Intermediate, and Unlimited Electrical Contractor programs is open now.
