San José – September 07, 2026 -- More than 400 international buyers and investors from over 40 countries opened the second edition of the Costa Rica Trade & Investment Summit (CRTIS) this week, a three-day event organized by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER) that has scheduled more than 3,600 personalized meetings with 1,000 exporting, multinational and supplier companies operating in the country.
PROCOMER Targets Repeat of $33 Million in Deals Closed From 2025 Debut
The inaugural 2025 edition generated 3,600 business meetings and 104 investment agendas, with PROCOMER's follow-up tracking confirming $33 million in closed deals stemming directly from negotiations initiated at the summit. Organizers are using that track record to structure the 2026 agenda around concrete procurement and investment priorities rather than general networking.
Costa Rica's Exports Climb 5% to $13.8 Billion Through July 2026
Costa Rican exports totaled $13.821 billion between January and July 2026, up 5% from the same period in 2025, with growth recorded across all regions of the country. The free-zone regime expanded 4% while the definitive regime, covering domestic-market-oriented production, grew 8%.
Service Exports Now Rival Medical Devices in Diversifying Trade Mix
Services account for 34% of Costa Rica's exportable offer, narrowly ahead of medical devices at 31%, with agriculture contributing 11%. PROCOMER General Manager Laura López said the country's specialized talent, productive capacity, market access and supplier network now support increasingly complex, high-value operations, positioning CRTIS as a venue for buyers and investors to evaluate those capabilities directly before making sourcing or expansion decisions.
Investors Scout Semiconductor and Tourism Infrastructure Projects During Site Visits
Delegations are visiting agricultural operations in Costa Rica's northern and Caribbean regions, ornamental plant companies in the western Central Valley, and advanced manufacturing firms located in research centers, free zones and business parks. Investors at the summit are evaluating new projects and expansions across agribusiness, advanced manufacturing, services, tourism infrastructure and semiconductors.
More than 1,000 companies linked to foreign direct investment currently operate in Costa Rica, generating 312,000 jobs. The summit's conference track includes Chris Knight, Managing Director of FT Locations at the Financial Times Group; Elena Gallego, Director of Invest in Andalucía; and Jairo Londoño, Country Manager of Microsoft Costa Rica, addressing site-location decisions, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
