Coral Beach Resort Sharjah Wins Award for On-Site Food Waste Digester

Fremont – November 03, 2026 -- Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has won the Sustain Sharjah Category for Hotel Properties at the Sharjah International Travel and Tourism Awards 2026, after becoming the first hotel in the emirate to operate a biodigester on site. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) presented the award, which recognizes the resort's diversion of food waste from landfill with Power Knot LLC's LFC biodigester.

Resort replaces landfill hauling with on-site processing

Food waste that goes to landfill decomposes and releases methane. The resort now processes it on site, which also removes the emissions from collection trucks. According to Power Knot, the system lowers the resort's carbon footprint, improves operations, enhances security and saves money. The judges recognized these environmental sustainability benefits.

LFC unit converts food waste to grey water within 24 hours

The LFC biodigester uses beneficial microorganisms to turn food waste into grey water within 24 hours, and the water flows to the drain. Staff load waste throughout the day, with no bagging or bin storage. Each unit connects to the LFC Cloud, which gives the resort real-time data on the waste processed and its environmental impact.

Shakeel Khaleel, Director of Sales and Marketing at Power Knot, said the resort's team has set a new benchmark for hotels in Sharjah.
