US Flu Hospitalizations Hit 3.5 per 1,000, Nearly 3x Prior Highs

United States – October 29, 2026 -- Influenza-associated hospitalizations reached 3.5 per 1,000 hospitalizations in the week beginning September 21, 2026, nearly three times the next-highest rate recorded at the same point in the prior six flu seasons, according to a Truveta Data analysis.

Hospitalization rate climbs more than 2.5 times faster than in any prior season

From the week beginning August 31 through the week beginning September 21, the rate rose by an average of 0.7 hospitalizations per 1,000 each week. The next-fastest increase over the comparable period was 0.3 per 1,000 per week, in 2022–23.

Across the six prior seasons, the median weekly change at this point was −0.03 per 1,000. Hospitalization rates were generally stable or declining at this stage of past seasons.

Intensive Diuretics Boost Fluid Loss, Kidney Injury in Heart Failure

United States – October 29, 2026 -- High-dose loop diuretics combined with adjuvant therapy produced an adjusted average weight loss of 4.6 pounds in heart failure inpatients, the largest of any strategy, but also came with higher rates of acute kidney injury, according to a study in the Journal of Cardiac Failure.

Study tracks 109,000 heart failure patients across US health systems

Researchers used Truveta Data to identify more than 109,000 patients hospitalized for heart failure between 2015 and 2022. Patients were grouped by the most intensive diuretic strategy used within the first 48 hours, ranging from low-dose loop diuretics alone to high-dose loop diuretics combined with thiazides or acetazolamide.

The team measured weight loss, hemoconcentration, in-hospital acute kidney injury, and the combined outcome of readmission or death within 90 days.

E-Bike ED Visit Rate Jumps 760% as Traditional Bike Injuries Hold Flat

United States – October 29, 2026 -- The rate of e-bike-related emergency department (ED) visits rose 760.2% between January–August 2023 and January–August 2026, while traditional bicycle visits increased only 7.9%, according to a Truveta Data analysis.

E-bike visits climbed from 1.2 to 10.1 per 100,000 people with an ED visit. The traditional bicycle rate moved from 59.4 to 64.1 per 100,000. Traditional bicycles still dominate in absolute volume: the study period recorded 63,811 traditional bicycle ED visits against 4,769 for e-bikes.

Pediatric e-bike ED visit rate rises 19.1-fold to 35.7 per 100,000

Patients aged 0–17 saw the steepest increase, from 1.9 to 35.7 per 100,000, against a 1.5-fold rise for traditional bicycles in the same group. E-bike rates also grew 7.7-fold among 18–24-year-olds, 7.4-fold among 25–44-year-olds, 7.6-fold among 45–64-year-olds and 3.2-fold among those 65 and older.

Truveta Data: 40% of Early Foundayo Users Had No Prior GLP-1 Use

United States – October 27, 2026 -- An analysis of 5,723 patients on Foundayo (oral orforglipron) found that 40.3% had no evidence of prior GLP-1 medication use, according to Truveta, which is pitching real-time "healthcare intelligence" to life science, healthcare and government teams.

Foundayo uptake runs mostly through primary care

Truveta researchers used Truveta Data to identify patients with a Foundayo prescription or medication dispense between April 1 and July 6, 2026. The drug was approved for obesity in April 2026.

General practice clinicians accounted for 60.0% of prescriptions, and advanced practice providers for another 31.9%. Only 0.1% of patients had evidence of recent oral semaglutide use.

Navigation Use in Sinus Surgery Rises to 41% From 29% Since 2018

United States – October 27, 2026 -- Computer-assisted navigation was used in 41.0% of endoscopic sinus surgeries in 2026, up from 29.2% in 2018, a 40.4% relative increase, according to a Truveta Data analysis of adult patients.

Navigation used in 35.5% of 98,971 procedures over the study period

The analysis covered endoscopic sinus surgeries performed between January 1, 2018, and August 31, 2026. Visits within 90 days of a prior surgery code were counted as a single procedure. Navigation was identified through a specific add-on CPT code.

Robotic Knee Replacement Use Triples to 36.1% as Complications Fall

United States – October 27, 2026 -- Robotic assistance in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) rose from 12.4% of procedures in 2018 to 36.1% in 2026, a 191% relative increase, according to an analysis of 362,667 procedures in Truveta Data.

Robotic assistance was used in 24.3% of all procedures in the study period, which ran from January 2018 to August 2026. Robotic-assisted cases ran longer. Median operation time was 136 minutes (IQR 116-160), against 126 minutes (IQR 109-149) without robotics.

CGM Users on Basal Insulin Show 45% Lower One-Year Mortality Risk

Europe – October 27, 2026 -- Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) was associated with a 45% lower risk of death at one year among adults with type 2 diabetes on basal insulin, according to a study presented at the 2026 European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting.

The analysis used Truveta Data to track nearly 28,000 adults with type 2 diabetes receiving basal insulin therapy. Researchers combined longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) and mortality data in a target trial emulation that compared CGM users with non-users.

CGM users show 36% lower two-year mortality risk

At one year, CGM users had a 45% lower risk of death from any cause than non-users. At two years, the reduction was 36%.
