North America – October 20, 2026 -- Capgemini Invent North America has introduced the Return on Investment Business Value Framework (ROI-BVF), a methodology that converts operational improvements in product lifecycle management (PLM) programs into financial outcomes, developed with a heavy machinery client investing in Siemens Teamcenter.
Framework targets subjective PLM funding decisions
Capgemini says many enterprises still base PLM funding on varying assumptions and inconsistent business cases, with limited visibility into realized outcomes. Decisions are further complicated by the choice between Teamcenter, Teamcenter X and other Siemens Xcelerator capabilities, each carrying different implementation efforts and expected returns.
The company lists four recurring obstacles: weak links between investments and business outcomes, no consistent basis for comparing initiatives, reliance on subjective inputs, and difficulty confirming that expected benefits were delivered.
ROI-BVF scores tangible and intangible value
The framework measures tangible value through time savings, cost reduction and capacity release. Intangible value covers increased transparency, greater decision confidence and improved user experience.
Capgemini positions the model as applicable to Teamcenter deployments, engineering change management, digital thread, quality management, requirements management and workflow automation.
Role-based baseline converts effort into financial value
The method starts by mapping roles to core activities, quantifying effort levels and collecting operational data on how time is spent across the product development lifecycle. Improvement initiatives are then tied to specific roles and activities, and expected efficiency gains are validated with subject matter experts. Labor costs and resource utilization metrics are applied to translate those gains into financial value.
The same baseline allows like-for-like comparison of Siemens product options. Capgemini cites the example of testing whether migrating from core Teamcenter to Teamcenter X delivers enough incremental value to justify the change.
Lean Portfolio Management integration adds data-driven business cases
ROI-BVF is designed to feed structured business cases into the analysis phase of Lean Portfolio Management, enabling organizations to quantify expected value with a common methodology and compare initiatives objectively.
A stable measurement baseline is intended to survive program pivots. Changes are mapped back to the same role- and task-based foundation, which Capgemini says preserves traceability and auditability of ROI calculations across an initiative's lifecycle.
Capgemini expects demand for such quantification to rise as organizations adopt Siemens Xcelerator solutions including Teamcenter, Polarion and Mendix. The firm did not disclose specific ROI figures or savings achieved by the heavy machinery client.
