Sacramento – October 15, 2026 -- Calkin Public Affairs, which has grown to 13 public affairs strategists in less than two years, received two awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) California Capital Chapter.
Calkin Public Affairs named Influential Agency of the Year after growing to 13 strategists
The firm grew from founder Kelly Calkin and a team of three to 13 strategists. The expansion widened its reach across California and let it take on both government and private sector clients. Its practices span water, energy, environmental policy and transportation.
The award recognizes an agency that elevates the communications profession and sets a benchmark for excellence.
Cattle Council Capitol event draws more than 60 legislative staff and agency representatives
The second award, in the Programs and Campaigns: Special Events category, went to "A Seat at the Table: Fueling Student Success Through School Meals." Calkin produced the event for the California Cattle Council.
The interactive open house took place at the Capitol on August 18, 2025, the Legislature's first day back from summer recess. Policymakers sampled a school-lunch-inspired meal prepared by a local school district and sourced from California beef and dairy producers.
More than 60 legislative staff and agency representatives spoke directly with farmers, ranchers and nutrition professionals. Nine partner organizations took part, including California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross.
Calkin plans to keep growing and to expand the services it offers clients throughout California.
