Bracco Commits $230M to First US Contrast Media Plant in North Carolina

MILAN – October 29, 2026 -- Bracco Imaging will invest $230 million to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility for injectable contrast media in Sanford, North Carolina, creating an expected 200 jobs.

Plant targets the company's largest market

The United States is Bracco's largest market. The sterile manufacturing site will add U.S. production capacity for injectable contrast media used in diagnostic imaging. Bracco says the added capacity will help it meet growing demand and respond to customer needs.

The facility will join existing production operations in Europe, Asia and Canada, giving the company a more geographically diversified manufacturing network. Bracco frames the project as a supply chain resilience measure.

Sanford site chosen for workforce and life sciences base

Bracco selected Sanford for its skilled workforce, established life sciences ecosystem and supportive environment for advanced manufacturing. The 200 positions will span manufacturing, engineering, technical operations, quality, warehousing and administration.

Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, Vice Chairman and CEO of Bracco Imaging, said local production brings supply closer to American hospitals and patients and makes it more resilient. He described Bracco as a family-owned company that invests for the long term.

Investment follows scale of a 4,000-employee group

Bracco Group, founded in 1927, operates in more than 100 countries with over 4,000 employees. Its consolidated annual revenues are approximately €2 billion, and it invests around 9% of its reference turnover in research and development.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Sanford Area Growth Alliance each issued their own press releases on the investment. The source does not disclose a construction timeline or a production start date.
