NEW YORK – October 29, 2026 -- Bloomberg launched BQuant Assistant, a conversational AI coding assistant that lets Bloomberg Terminal subscribers write Python code and query financial data across more than 22,000 fields using natural-language prompts. The tool is built into both BQuant Desktop and BQuant Enterprise.
BQuant Assistant generates BQL and PyBQL queries across all major asset classes
The assistant produces Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) and PyBQL queries covering equities, funds, fixed income, FX, commodities, indices and derivatives. The fields span reference, pricing, returns, derived analytics, fundamentals, valuations, sustainable finance data, risk metrics, estimates and economic data. It also writes code for screens and universes, and for visualizations using open source libraries such as Plotly and Jupyter Widgets.
Because it draws on the BQuant Help Center, example notebooks, libraries and how-to guides, Bloomberg says it returns more relevant answers than a general-purpose coding assistant.
Code runs in the secure sandbox only after user approval
BQuant Assistant can insert, run, debug and iterate on PyBQL or Python code in a user's active notebook inside the secure BQuant sandbox. It names each proposed action and asks for approval before reading from or writing to a notebook. Users can also select existing code and ask the assistant to explain it.
Shawn Edwards, Bloomberg's Chief Technology Officer, said the tool is meant to make it "easier for clients to test ideas, refine analyses, and build investment strategies." He cited the specialized coding knowledge and time needed to turn an investment idea into a repeatable analysis on increasingly large datasets.
Enterprise edition ships first, Desktop enters limited beta at end of October 2026
BQuant Assistant is generally available in BQuant Enterprise. BQuant Desktop receives it in limited beta at the end of October 2026. BQuant Desktop is included with a Bloomberg Anywhere subscription. BQuant Enterprise is a fully managed, cloud-based platform that lets firms connect proprietary data sources, integrate enterprise Git platforms, reuse internal code through private Conda channels and schedule projects.
Launch extends Bloomberg's AI rollout after ASKB and Enterprise MCP
The release follows two other recent Bloomberg AI announcements. ASKB is the Bloomberg Terminal's conversational AI interface. Enterprise Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an AI access layer for Data License Plus (DL+), Bloomberg's next-generation Data License offering.
