Azenta Adds Elegen License, SynPlexity Deal to Boost GENEWIZ

Burlington, Mass. – October 30, 2026 -- Azenta (Nasdaq: AZTA) has secured an exclusive license to Elegen Corp.'s cell-free DNA synthesis platform and acquired SynPlexity Inc., two moves aimed at expanding the gene synthesis and discovery capabilities of its GENEWIZ business.

Elegen license adds cell-free DNA manufacturing to the GENEWIZ portfolio

The Elegen platform is designed to improve DNA quality, delivery speed and manufacturing scalability. It supplies sequence-verified DNA constructs and templates that simplify preparation for downstream experiments, including antibody discovery.

Production workflows are compact, so regional capacity can be added close to customers as demand requires.

SynPlexity acquisition brings pooled gene assembly for thousands of variants per library

SynPlexity's pooled gene assembly technology delivers thousands of full-length gene variants in a single library. Researchers can build and test large numbers of candidates, including AI-generated designs, as biological design scales up.

Azenta targets higher-growth applications in synthetic biology and AI-enabled drug discovery

Trey Martin, President, Multiomics at Azenta, said the investments expand the products and capabilities GENEWIZ can offer and are key to accelerating its growth. He described the combination with Azenta's global infrastructure and existing gene-to-antibody portfolio as a "differentiated platform" for biologics discovery and development.

Azenta said the moves extend GENEWIZ's sequencing and gene synthesis business into synthetic biology, protein engineering and AI-enabled drug discovery.

The release gave no financial terms for the license or the acquisition. Azenta will provide additional details on its fourth quarter fiscal 2026 earnings call. The company flagged execution risks, including its ability to transfer, validate, integrate and scale the technologies and to protect the relevant intellectual property.
