Avcon wins FAA STC for Honeywell MKV-A EGPWS on Learjet, Bombardier jets

Olathe, Kansas – October 13, 2026 -- Avcon Industries, a subsidiary of Butler National Corporation (OTCQX: BUKS), has received FAA Supplemental Type Certificate No. ST12439CH to replace Honeywell Aerospace Mark V EGPWS computers with the MKV-A unit across nine Learjet and Bombardier models.

STC covers Learjet 40/45 and 60 and seven Bombardier variants

The Approved Models List STC applies to the Learjet Models 40/45 and 60. It also covers the Bombardier CL-600-1A11 (600), CL-600-2A12 (601), three CL-600-2B16 variants (601-3A, 601-3R and 604), BD-700-1A10 and BD-700-1A11.

The installation uses existing avionics racks and is designed to minimize installation effort. Honeywell is phasing out the Mark V, and the MKV-A is offered as a drop-in replacement with options to upgrade capabilities later.

Honeywell supplies all hardware, and MKV-A computers are shipping

All equipment for the modification is expected to come from Honeywell Aerospace, and MKV-A EGPWS computers are available for shipment. Avcon provides STC licensing and FAA STC information.

Honeywell says the MKV-A offers higher-resolution databases, enhanced safety and situational awareness, and resilience to GPS jamming and spoofing.

FAA rules since 2000 keep demand tied to compliance

The FAA mandated EGPWS or Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems in 2000 for turbine-powered airplanes configured with six or more passenger seats. Regulations require all Bombardier and Learjet airplanes, except certain Model 23/24 airframes, to carry a TAWS or EGPWS system.

Avcon pursues Canadian, European and UK validation

Avcon is applying for validation or approval of the FAA STC from Transport Canada, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the UK Civil Aviation Authority. No timeline was given.

Avcon President Marcus Abendroth said the form, fit and functional replacement should minimize the replacement effort. Operators can complete the modification at Avcon's New Century, Kansas facility or at their own qualified avionics modification center.
