Hong Kong – September 10, 2026 -- Domestic philanthropic giving across participating Asian jurisdictions reached US$109 billion in 2024 and could exceed US$1 trillion within the next decade, according to an Interim Report launched at the Philanthropy for Better Cities (PBC) 2026 forum in Hong Kong.
The report, produced by the Commission on Asian Philanthropy and co-convened by the Institute of Philanthropy (IoP) and the Asian Philanthropy Congress, marks the first comprehensive study of the scale and structure of philanthropic ecosystems across the region. It identifies everyday individual giving, corporate contributions and public investment as the primary drivers, positioning philanthropic capital as a strategic lever for national development.

The two-day forum, convened by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in association with IoP at West Kowloon Cultural District, opened on 7 September with roughly 2,000 delegates from philanthropy, sport, business, government, academia and the social sector. Club Chairman The Hon Martin Liao said PBC has engaged more than 10,000 participants and featured over 380 speakers from more than 40 countries and regions since its 2016 launch, calling it one of the world's largest philanthropic assemblies.
Trust releases first Impact Report tracing giving back to 1915
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust officially released its first Impact Report at the forum, detailing community outcomes since its earliest recorded donation in 1915. The Trust has introduced a three-tier measurement framework assessing impact at project, programme and Trust level. The report's findings recommend targeting resources toward marginalised populations, designing initiatives for long-term sustainability, and building flexible, extended follow-up periods into impact measurement to capture lasting behavioural outcomes.
