Appian and PSI CRO Launch AI Site Selection Tool for Trials

BERLIN – October 29, 2026 -- Appian (Nasdaq: APPN) and contract research organisation PSI have taken a live AI-powered process orchestration solution for clinical trial site identification and selection into operation, the first joint project between the two companies.

The solution covers therapeutic areas, indications and geographies. It moves previously manual, decentralised steps into a single digital process, from project initiation through the later stages of site selection.

Solution orchestrates site selection across teams and countries

Site selection involves multiple stakeholders, large volumes of documentation and parallel activities across regions. The new tool connects people, data, systems and AI in one workflow, and coordinates activities across teams and geographies. It automates information and document processing, manages routing and exceptions, and provides real-time insight into process performance.

The solution is built on the Appian Platform, which Appian says was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies. It integrates with PSI's core systems and data warehouse, as well as Appian's AI and process intelligence capabilities.

PSI targets fewer non-enrolling sites and enrollment delays

Kirill Soldatov, Head of Process Improvement at PSI, said the aim is more predictable, accurate and timely site selection worldwide, with the goal of further reducing or eliminating non-enrolling sites and patient enrollment delays.

PSI describes on-time trial delivery as its key operational differentiator, with the metric still above 90% in 2026. The privately owned, mid-sized CRO employs more than 3,500 people across 58 countries as of September 2026 and is headquartered in Zug, Switzerland.

Alexander Motie, Regional Vice President DACH & Eastern Europe at Appian, said the project shows the value of embedding AI in business processes. He described the strategic partnership with PSI as a basis for further automation and innovation.

Partners evaluate more use cases across the trial lifecycle

The site selection tool is the first step toward a scalable platform that links automation, AI-powered capabilities and process orchestration across the full clinical trial lifecycle. PSI and Appian will now evaluate further use cases. The stated goal is shorter clinical studies and greater predictability, which the companies say would bring new products to market sooner and lower costs for consumers.
