Antheia Wins $80M Conditional OSC Loan to Onshore Drug Supply

Menlo Park, Calif. – October 18, 2026 -- Antheia has received a conditional commitment from the U.S. Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) for a direct, long-term loan of up to $80 million to expand domestic production of critical pharmaceutical ingredients.

The loan, together with additional private capital, would fund Antheia's U.S. manufacturing strategy. The company's advanced biosynthesis platform is the technology behind the planned onshoring effort.

U.S. depends on foreign suppliers for about 90 percent of key drug inputs

The U.S. relies on foreign countries for approximately 90 percent of its key starting materials (KSMs) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The source names public health emergencies, natural disasters, geopolitical tensions and supply chain failures as drivers of drug shortages that follow from this dependence.

Antheia has already secured $32 million in non-dilutive federal financing

Antheia has received $32 million in non-dilutive federal financing and equity financing from strategic government-affiliated investors. The U.S. government has repeatedly recognized its biosynthesis platform and domestic manufacturing capabilities as priority technologies for public health resilience.

CFO Eric d'Esparbes said a long-term OSC loan would give the company flexibility in its next phase of commercial growth. He described expanding the U.S. manufacturing footprint as central to Antheia's commercial strategy and said the financing would let it meet commitments to customers, partners and investors.

Board member Karras backs long-term capital for domestic production

Jeff Karras, General Partner at America's Frontier Fund and a member of Antheia's Board of Directors, said strategic, long-term capital will help return critical pharmaceutical production to the U.S. and build a more resilient industrial base.

CEO and co-founder Dr. Christina Smolke called the commitment an important milestone for advancing domestic technology on urgent national priorities.

Conditions must be met before financial close

The commitment is conditional. Antheia must complete additional steps before financial close, including satisfying financial, legal, technical, investment and due diligence requirements, along with other conditions.
